Sea of Opportunities: Protecting and Restoring the Baltic Sea Together

From 22–24 September, we joined the Sea of Opportunities conference at the Ozeaneum in Stralsund, Germany—a joint final event of the Baltic Coast Dialog Project and Benefits of Restoring Marine Ecosystems and Their Services in the Southern Baltic Sea.

Over three days, experts and stakeholders from across the Baltic Sea region came together to share insights, discuss challenges, and explore solutions for the effective protection and restoration of the Baltic Sea. The event featured diverse voices, including Sebastian Unger, Head of the Marine Division at the German Ministry of Environment, Rüdiger Strempel, Executive Secretary at HELCOM, as well as representatives from conservation NGOs, research institutes and local fishermen, ensuring that both policy and practice were at the table.

As the MPA Community Network, we had the opportunity to present our work and discuss how efforts from ongoing projects could be aligned and integrated effectively. Our members Blue4All and Blue Connect were present too!

The conference highlighted the importance of cross-sector collaboration, knowledge exchange, and joint action, principles that also guide the work of the MPA Community Network.
