BioProtect
Advancing area-based management tools to accelerate the protection and restoration of marine biodiversity across the European sea basins.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
BioProtect: Safeguarding Europe's Seas Through Advanced Area-Based Biodiversity Management
BioProtect aims to accelerate biodiversity protection and restoration in European seas, aligning with EU 2030 targets and the European Green Deal. Through an innovative area-based management framework, it engages stakeholders, monitors biodiversity, maps human pressures, and prioritizes conservation areas across five sites from the Arctic to the Azores. Unlike past approaches, BioProtect integrates diverse perspectives, scales, and data sources, evaluating ecological and socio-economic impacts under various scenarios, including climate change. Leveraging cross-cutting expertise, BioProtect delivers impact-driven solutions to combat biodiversity loss and climate change, contributing substantially to EU nature restoration targets by 2030.
