As members of the MPA Community Network, the BioProtect team hosted a stand featuring the MPA Card Game—an interactive activity where participants step into the roles of different MPA stakeholders and work through real-world management challenges and trade-offs. The game has been widely praised for making complex marine governance issues accessible and engaging, and it drew strong interest again at the Forum.
The activity aligns with BioProtect’s mission to co-develop and demonstrate transferable ecosystem-based solutions that support effective protection and restoration of marine and coastal biodiversity. BioProtect’s work includes a decision-support framework for ecosystem-based conservation and restoration planning, citizen-engagement processes, and impact assessment workflows to help authorities and communities make informed choices.
By bringing a hands-on tool to a high-level Atlantic gathering, BioProtect and the MPA Community Network showcased how playful, collaborative methods can spark meaningful conversations about marine protection.
